Alysha Cox's LAST Mission Update!

Image
Hey Everyone!   I can't believe last week was my last week as a full time missionary. Let me tell you about my week and then I've got some final thoughts to wrap up this email series.    Last Monday we managed to squeeze 4 lessons into the brief time after pday. It was a busy week as we were helping a struggling friend and preparing another friend, Juan, for baptism. I had my departing interview with President Riding, which was so crazy! Basically this week was so busy, but it was awesome! Yesterday we were talking to people on the streets of Anderson, and we talked to several who weren't interested, but the last lady we talked to, it was so cool! She had just been praying to God for him to help, to give her something to believe he still cared about her. Then, we run into her and ask if we can share a scripture, I started reading a verse from Matthew, which turns out is the name of someone she's been struggling with. She just knew we were such a direct answer...

This week was pretty cool. A few life lessons learned.  We went to the library and as I was looking at some of the people there (we try to talk with everyone) and I thought to myself, "There's Bill, and DJ, and Christian, and Etc" I know the names of a lot of homeless friends, or friends in humble circumstances. Then the thought came to my mind, that Jesus Christ would know the names of these people, and so did I. That was just such a cool thought! The worth of souls is great in the sight of God!   Remember that friend who we pounded on his door like the police from last week? Finally got back in contact, and he's coming to church again. He is working through it. To me it really just means that you can keep trying, no matter how bad you think you've messed up, you cannot travel farther than the Christ's light reaches.  A guy at the library asked us what was with the name tags. We explained that we were missionaries, and he was like, "oh, I thought...

Hey everyone this was a crazy week. Finally got a nap today.  We were worried about our friend and got to knock on his door like the police. It was a rough week, but he's okay. We also were teaching a friend about the plan of salvation, and a guy nearby started listening and he was searching for greater purpose. He'd seen us out at the library a lot and he ended up joining the lesson, which was awesome. He is such a sincere seeker of truth.  The police knocked on our neighbor's door one night around midnight. Haha, that was crazy, then came an ambulance and fire truck. Didn't get to bed until late that night... We also had the thought to invite a certain member to a lesson with a friend. That member couldn't join the lesson, but reminded us about an old friend we hadn't taught in a while, and we decided to reach back out. And HE RESPONDED!!! That was awesome!! Basically, one of the busiest weeks. But it was awesome. Have a great week! Sister Cox Only 2 picture...

This week was good! Did some knocking in the rain, teaching at the library, eating chicken hearts, just the usual.    Our friend is working on quitting smoking and we put him on date again, but then we also talked about the temple and put him on date to go to the temple after baptism, I think expanding his vision to after baptism will be helpful!     I love this talk from President Eyring, O Remember, Remember, and a paragraph from it: I wrote down a few lines every day for years. I never missed a day no matter how tired I was or how early I would have to start the next day. Before I would write, I would ponder this question: “Have I seen the hand of God reaching out to touch us or our children or our family today?” As I kept at it, something began to happen. As I would cast my mind over the day, I would see evidence of what God had done for one of us that I had not recognized in the busy moments of the day. As that happened, and it happened often, ...

Hey Everyone! This week I got to go to a baptism in Muncie with some of our friends from Anderson and see some old friends. That was awesome! Then I had my last zone conference. It was kinda sad. I love these missionaries, and it just kinda started to hit that I'm nearing the end. We started singing How Firm a Foundation, which was the last song we sang at the MTC before leaving for Indiana. It hit powerful then, and it hit powerful this week. I was a little too emotional to sing most of the song, but I listened, until we came to verse 7.  This is what the verses say:  How firm a foundation, ye Saints of the Lord,       Is laid for your faith in his excellent word!       What more can he say than to you he hath said,       Who unto the Savior, who unto the Savior,       Who unto the Savior for refuge have fled? Fear not, I am with thee; oh, be not dismayed,       For I am...

Hey Everyone. This week was AMAZING!  It was hard to leave Muncie, but Anderson is AMAZING! The members are so engaged in the work. Sister Hill, my little Greenie is also awesome.  We got a flat tire on our second night in the dark and in the rain, but Sister Hill changed it in like 10 minutes! Haha, that was funny.  We also had a lesson with a friend who is deaf and I got to use sign language! It was so awesome!! I've only got to use that for one other lesson on my mission. We have another lesson this Saturday. We also stopped by a restaurant we never visit just to get some phone calls done, and our ward mission leader showed up. It was perfect timing for a little meeting. The Lord set up a little meeting for us. :) I was watching some Bible videos and I just loved this one and wanted to share it with yall!   Hey Everyone!    This week Steve got to come start his family history! It was so cool as he had nothing, then 20 minutes later he had a good sized family tree on family search. We got to teach several friends about the temple this week. This video is so powerful! Two Apostles Lead a Virtual Tour of the Rome Italy Temple https://media2.ldscdn.org/assets/news-and-public-affairs/newsroom-2019/2019-01-1000-two-apostles-lead-a-virtual-tour-of-the-rome-italy-temple-720p-eng.mp4   Temples were found in Christ's Church anciently, they are there again today.   I was thinking about how the temple and tabernacle were places of sacrifice, and 3 Nephi 9: 19-20 And ye shall offer up unto me no more the shedding of blood; yea, your sacrifices and your burnt offerings shall be done away, for I will accept none of your sacrifices and your burnt offerings.    20 And ye shall offer for a sacrifice unto me a broken heart and a contrite spirit. And whoso come...
